Oregon senator Jeff Merkley said yesterday that $10 mil from the government’s disaster fund set aside to help out the likes of us awaiting Florence, was transferred to immigration enforcement. How does he know this information? From a 39-page Department of Homeland Security transfer and reprogramming report from August 31. The report claims this cold, hard cash was put towards detention beds, transportation and removals for ICE. DHS however is calling the accusation by Merkley fake news saying FEMA has plenty of money for disaster relief. Plus, according to Trump, FEMA helped Puerto Rico with their hurricane relief “tremendously,” so we have nothing to worry about, right?
